Ever Green Message of Islam

I had the chance to attend few training sessions and read few books on the so called "life skills development". Also I have tried to engage in written and oral dialogues with many individuals, from different walks of life, on how they look at their own life. I have observed one common factor while doing these exercises. Most of the present day lead trainers and writers are trying to pull back the modern man back to a track of "discounted spirituality", especially the technocratic youth who are leading a very shallow life.
The present day economic boom, in India for example, started in 1991. With a lot of money in hand, the youth of India had a steep growth in the standard of living. They acquired all what they could. Flats, Cars, Motorbikes, Computers, Mobile phones etc… But today most of them, at their 40s and 50s, are tired of running behind the gadgets endlessly. No wonder why you find these days huge number of attendees in life skill training programs and stress release programs.
Even though there is a big trend among the young technocrats to read and hear these writers and trainers, there is still a big vacuum existing in the air. The problem is that even the trainers and the writers are too much commercialized these days. During the hunger strike drama at New Delhi we all read that, if you want to sit in the front row of the Yoga class of Mr. Ramdev you have to pay more than Rs. 50,000/-! The writers on life skills will not mind to make certain compromises to keep their books in the best sellers list. To suit this situation all of them keep “RELIGION” away and promote the term spirituality, yes discounted spirituality. They all take the basic religious teaching out of religion and sell to the rich shallow minds in this new bottle called spirituality.
They talk about peace of mind.
They talk about development.
They talk about stress free life.
They talk about human relationship.
They talk about success in life.
They convince you that you can be a winner once you attend their yoga, workshop or read their books.

How many trainers, big or small, and books!! Sri Sri Ravi shankar, Chetan Bagath, Shiv Khera, Ravi Chandar, Stephen Covey…. you name them.

I fully agree that these trainers and writers have succeeded in reducing the stress levels of many technocrats and professionals. But are these trainers and writers giving you the full picture? NOT REALLY. They are compromising on few important links in the chain of TRUTH. Most of them tie their donkeys (not horses) near the neo-capitalistic life style and try to devise solutions from within the same boundaries.

I would confidently request the open hearted readers to learn Islam from where these trainers and writers stop. Soon you will reach the “Ahaa” moment of the real spirituality. The real meaning of our life - Our root - The philosophy of life - the inner strength we possess - the practical ways to apply the inner strength - the social context - the meaning of the real success - the destination beyond this life - the beauty of leading a peaceful, sustainable and successful life keeping the destination always in the context - The ultimate bliss of meeting your Lord.

The message of Islam is the message of the winners, irrespective of the number of gadgets they own!

In Islam a rich man can be a winner, a poor man can be a winner, a healthy man can be a winner, a sick man can be a winner, a wise man can be a winner, a ruler can be a winner, an employer can be a winner, an employee can be a winner. One can be a winner even if he loses everything he has – in the cause of Islam- including, the most precious possession, his life!

Yes. All members of the society can win together. A win - win situation for all! No class wars. No distinction on color, language or nationality. Equality, fraternity, freedom of choice and being responsible for the choice one makes in his life – it is all beautiful in a practicing atmosphere.

Islam liberated man from all sorts of manmade bonds. Remember the stimulus and response theory of Stephen Covey in his book "The 7 habits of highly effective people" and the example of the Jew in the concentration camp of Hitler. Thousands of examples can be quoted from the history of Islam where individuals were mentally independent while they were physically captured, tortured or suppressed. Unlike the Jew in the concentration camp of Stephen Covey, the heroes of Islam were having a much higher perspective of meeting their Lord in paradise, after their death. Only Islam can produce examples like that of Bilal (RA), Ammar (RA) etc.

Islam should be read as a continuation of the success stories of humanity against the forces of evil from pre-historic period: The success of Musa –Moses- (A.S) over Pharoah - The winners along with Prophet Nooh –Noah- (A.S) in the Ship - The series of messengers and their success stories in the Ibrahami (Abraham) communities including Yusuf (Joseph), Eisa (Jesus), Yahya …..(May peace be upon them all).

Prophet Mohammed came as the last messenger to deliver the ultimate teachings from the Creator to the humans till end of time. His life is well documented in the pages of history and is an open book to all mankind. He elevated mankind to its best. The life of his followers should be studied, if you want to taste Islam in its totality. Abu Bakar, Omar, Usman, Ali (Peace be upon them all), the stories of such followers will lead humanity to the right path till the end of time – Insha Allah.

The message of Islam is a light. Where there is light darkness cannot enter! This fact is clear from the present day world affairs. The more they try to suppress and defame the message of Islam the more popular it has become among the seekers of truth!

It is not required to force others to ISLAM. Holy Quran Says in verse 2:256 : Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.
Quran says in verse 21:107 about prophet Mohammed (SA):
We sent thee not, but as a Mercy for all creatures.

Yes. The message and messenger of Islam are blessings for this world at large. With lots of trial and error man will ultimately return back to “Fitrath”- the true state of affairs.

To be successful in life, be a NICHE or a candle lit from the niche of Islam, the ever green message to mankind from his Creator.

Virtuous Deeds During Zul Hijjah

Virtuous Deeds During Zul Hijjah

• The Takbeeraat of Tashreeq
• Fasting on the day of Arafah(9 Zil Hijjah)
• Qurbani / Udhiyya
• Sunnats of the day of Eid-ul Adha
The Takbeeraat of Tashreeq

It is Wajib (incumbent) for every adult Muslim male to recite the Takbeeraat of Tashreeq after every Fardh Salaat-performed with Jamaat or individually from the Fajr of the 9th of Zul-Hijjah to the Asr of the 13th of Zul Hijjah. The Takbeeraat should be recited once only. The words are as follows:
اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ لآ إلَهَ إلَّا اللَّهُ وَاَللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ وَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar laa ilaha illallahu wallahu akbar. Allahu Akbar walillaahil hamd.
Translation: "Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no deity besides Allah and Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the Greatest and all praises belong to Him Alone."
NB. Men should recite this Takbeer audibly whilst females should do so softly.

Fasting on the day of Arafah (9 Zil Hijjah)

It was reported from Abu Qutaadah that the Messenger of Allah(peace be upon him) was asked about fasting on the Day of 'Arafah[9 Zil Hijjah]. He said,

"It atones for the sins of the previous year and of the coming year." (Hadith-Narrated by Muslim)

Qurbani / Udhiyya

Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (R.A.) reports that the Companions of Rasulullah (Sallalaho alihe wassallam) asked him:

" Oh Prohpet of Allah (pbuh), what is this sacrifice?" He said: "It is the way of your forefather Ibrahim(AS) ." They asked:"What (reward) is for us therein?" He replied: "There is a reward for every hair (i.e. the reward for meat and useful parts of the animal's body will be very lofty in merit, but there will also be a great reward for the parts which are useless and thrown away such as the hair)." They asked: "For the wool, Ya Rasulullah?" He replied: "There is one reward for every strand of wool." (Hadith:Ahmed, Ibn Majah)

SUNNATS OF THE DAY OF EID-UL ADHA

• To rise as early as possible (in fact much of this night should be spent in Ibaadat ).
• To make Ghusl(Take a bath)
• To use the Miswaak
• To apply Itr (perfume)
• To wear one's best clothes, ensuring that it conforms with Sharih (sunnah dress)
• For Eid-ul-Adha is like Eid-ul-Fitr in every sense except for that in Eid-ul-Adha it is desirable not to eat anything before prayer, if you have eaten then there is no harm
• To go to the 'Eid Gah' (Place of Eid Prayer) as early as possible.
• To perform Eid Salaat on the 'Eid Gah' rather than the Masjid. There is no harm for aged and the sick to perform their Eid Salaat in the Masjid. Rain is also an excuse for performing Eid Salaat in the Masjid.
• To choose a separate route when returning from the Eid Gah.
• To walk to the Eid Gah. However, there is no harm in using any means of conveyance if the Eid Gah is a distance away.
• To recite the Takbeer[Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La illaha-iIllallahu, Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar wa lillahilhamd] while walking to the Eid Gah.
• If we have the means than Qurbani(Udhiyya) should be done

Let us Celebrate the Day of Eid by caring for the weak and needy in our community, discharging our Qurbani and by upholding the Commandments of Allah Ta’ala and the Sunnah of our Beloved Nabi Muhammad(Peace be upon him)

Islam & West: Anger should give way to rational discourse

By Khaled Al-Maeena, Editor in Chief of Arabnews Daily
http://archive.arabnews.com/?page=9§ion=0&article=19556&d=23&m=10&y=2002

The interview with Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in Kuala Lumpur was hastily arranged. However, despite a busy schedule and a planned trip to India, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, Dr. Mahathir found time to engage me in a lengthy and candid discussion that covered a wide range of domestic and international issues.
The view on the way to Jaya Putra, seat of the Malaysian government, was of motor ways blending into a natural beauty that has made Malaysia one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The prime minister’s office itself turned out to be a beautiful structure that, like Malaysian architecture generally, combines the very best of modernism with traditional.
When I entered through the small door I was asked for my ID, and on giving over my passport was handed a smart card. The photographer and I used it to get through a turnstile before we descended into an underpass and along a corridor. A lift took us up to the third floor, where the card was exchanged for another which we used to proceed up to the PM’s floor.
The press secretary and his aides met us, and what was immediately striking was how the surroundings were devoid of the trappings of high office. There were no armed guards, for instance, and it seemed more like the boardroom of a major Asian corporation.
At precisely 2:30 p.m. the PM’s assistant ushered me into the prime minister’s office, who stood and greeted me with a warm handshake. He too was wearing a name tag, as though he were just another employee in the building. It was obvious from the first moments of being in his company that he was a man who wears the airs and graces of his title lightly. Not that he has ever taken his responsibilities with anything but great seriousness. He has played a pivotal role in propelling Malaysia into the twenty-first century by adopting a pragmatic, high-tech agenda and refusing — despite sometimes fierce international criticism — to compromise his clear vision of how wealth and prosperity can increasingly become an integral part of his country’s destiny.
A tireless and bold leader, Mahathir is a no-nonsense man who has always had Malaysia’s best interests at heart. In contrast to many other world leaders, you are never in any doubt when you talk to him that he is speaking frankly, and from the heart.
Khaled Al-Maeena: The bombing in Bali and colossal loss of life has increased the appetite of those who are against our culture. It’s also being used to raise the specter of “Islamic terror”. And what can be done to prevent such things from happening in the future?
Dr. Mahathir Mohamad: Both sides should understand the reasons for what is happening now. The West and the Muslims, as well as the people who act in anger. They do not act rationally, but just want to hit back. They can launch a conventional war, but what is needed is more thought about how the causes of the anger can be removed. I must however warn that any attack on Iraq will only sharpen the division between the West and the Muslim world.
Al-Maeena: It is said that, among the Muslim countries, there are no sane voices, while extremists are heard loud and clear. Are you going to do something about it?
Dr. Mahathir: I don't know how much I can do. There is no one who can do enough. If we feel we’re oppressed then we should pledge to work to overcome the oppression; and we've set certain policies. If this is not done, people get frustrated and the result is an increase in the oppression of Muslims.
Al-Maeena: One of the charges against Islam is that democracy is an alien concept to our religion, something repeated more and more by the powers that be in the West.
Dr. Mahathir: If you go back in history, when the Prophet (pbuh) died, the people elected his successor. This proves that democracy is not alien to Islam.
Al-Maeena: Do you think that organizations like the OIC could help to bring about change — without infringing on sovereignty — through conferences, think tanks and workshops?
Dr. Mahathir: Yes, provided they have a firm commitment. There must be a commitment, and a firm acceptance of the idea. If you want change, you must be prepared to accept change.
Al-Maeena: But I think Malaysia is playing a leading role and your role in Islamic banking is paying dividends. People are looking at Malaysia as a role model in this regard. There could be lessons for others here.
Dr. Mahathir: Well, if people see what we are doing with this model and they like it, they are welcome to follow it. We've shown that in Malaysia the democratic system works, that we've been able to develop the country using the free market system but at the same time the people are very patient. We've been able to make advances and we've succeeded in demonstrating that Islamic banking is as viable as other types of banking.
Al-Maeena: Still on the subject of Malaysia, a country where despite racial and religious differences and languages there is harmony. Everyone is “a Malaysian”. Is this feeling natural or does the government have to work at it and remind people of it?
Dr. Mahathir: We've had to work very hard at it. The tendency earlier was to be very racial in our outlook. But we accept that we've got to live among ourselves. There was once a racial riot. We were able to put a stop to that kind of thing and learn the lessons from the incident. Our feeling is that it is far better to have a slice of the cake that is growing, rather than to have the whole cake when it’s shrinking. So if we cannot get on together, the country cannot grow and the economy cannot grow and we'll all become poor.
Al-Maeena: The Asian financial crisis caused a lot of turbulence in the area among big players and plunged Malaysia into deep recession. At that time you blamed certain speculators from outside and implemented reforms and decisions that were considered controversial. In hindsight, do you think you took the right decisions?
Dr. Mahathir: I think they were the right decisions. In fact, everybody admits that Malaysia has managed to come out of that crisis intact and healthy both financially and economically.
Al-Maeena: Returning to the question of the Middle East, since you are going to visit the area and India and Pakistan. Do you think there will be some sort of beckoning from your side to the leaders of both India and Pakistan to try and resolve some of the issues?
Dr. Mahathir: I don't think I would make any attempt. I don't think I’d be welcome.
Al-Maeena: If one party asks you to do that, would you do it — considering that Malaysia has good relations with both sides?
Dr. Mahathir: Yes, we've good relations with both India and Pakistan. We've got our own way of solving our problems. And that is not by confrontation but through compromise.
Al-Maeena: When you visit Saudi Arabia, I’m sure you will be discussing the problems in the area. The United States seems to be very reluctant to acknowledge that there is failure of progress of the Middle East issue. You have been an advocate of the right to self-determination for the people of Palestine. Don't you think much more should be done from the OIC and the Muslim side to tell the American administration that they have to look into this more sympathetically, especially in light of what we’ve said about the causes of terror attacks?
Dr. Mahathir: Some of the countries in the OIC should make their voices heard. How that can be done I don't know. But if they keep silent, it will be assumed that the Americans are right.
Al-Maeena: In June this year you went on national TV to announce your resignation, only to recant a few hours later. Then a decision was made that in September or October 2003 you will resign. Is there a particular reason for this?
Dr. Mahathir: Nothing very particular except that I've served the country for 21 years and that's the longest period for any other prime minister in Malaysia. I think it's time that I stepped down to give others an opportunity to lead the country.
Al-Maeena: Despite the announcement of Moody's ratings, Malaysian wants and risks were hardly affected by your decision. Are you confident that the takeover by deputy prime minister will be orderly and will not cause any dissent within your own party?
Dr. Mahathir: I don't think there will be any dissent. I think the party accepts even now the fact that I'm stepping down in October 2003 and I'll be handing over to my deputy. Everything is in place in order to ensure that the economy of the country will continue to get stronger.
Al-Maeena: Many view you as the chairman of a board who does not take kindly to the opposition from the board members.
Dr. Mahathir: It’s not true at all. I wish that people would watch us sitting in the Cabinet. There’s much laughter! Sometimes my views are not accepted. So… they are not accepted. I don't dictate things to “the members of the board”. The problem is that the media has built up this picture. They say to Cabinet ministers: “Please tell us is it’s true that he’s a dictator.” They say “no, it's not true.” But they just repeat that “the truth is that he is a dictator. Isn't that true?” There is nothing you can do when people have already made up their mind. So the perception is that I'm like that.

Al-Maeena: Looking at the New Strait Times, I find you're a keen advocate of the English language. Do you think the use of the English language in Malaysia and the Muslim world will facilitate our attempts to get our viewpoints across?
Dr. Mahathir: If you're backward, people will attack you all the time. That's why we've got to learn English – not because we want to speak English or because we think it’s a superior culture or anything like that, but because English is the language of knowledge today like Arabic was the language of knowledge in the past.
Al-Maeena: There are those who raise fears that too much English will dampen the culture.
Dr. Mahathir: But we can use the language and at the same time protect our culture.
Al-Maeena: When you think of Malaysia in the future, what do you think are the main challenges you have overcome?
Dr. Mahathir: I had a particular problem when I first became prime minister in that there was fear among the tiny Muslim community that I'm a Malay Muslim cynic and therefore would bring chaos to the country. I worked hard to prove that this was not true. And today I think that’s was one of the most important things I've been able to accomplish. I think this should confirm it. I've been able to bring disparate groups together and they are living in harmony. Now I think the non-Malays don’t have a problem. All I wanted to do was balance development between the Malays and non-Malays.
Al-Maeena: You're an articulate spokesman for the developing world and you've stood up to the superpower when it comes to globalization and several other issues. You've been criticized and have incurred the displeasure of many quarters, including the United States. Has this stand of yours been a thorn in the side of the US-Malay relationship?
Dr. Mahathir: Well, there are some in the United States who are still unhappy with my views. I've been able to defend myself and so far they have not been able to prove that I've been objecting to globalization without proper reasons.
Al-Maeena: In the context of the OIC, since we are talking about globalization, should the OIC help the Muslims adopt an economic, social and religious framework to create a defense against such attacks?
Dr. Mahathir: We've got a framework but there is the question of what we want to do... If we want, there are many ways of protecting ourselves. Even though we may be weak in other fields, in numerical strength we have great wealth.
Al-Maeena: Are you confident about Malaysia's future on the global scale in light of the regional situation? In particular, I refer to the bombings, and Japan and Korea being in recession and not taking kindly to what Malaysia is doing with its financial field.
Dr. Mahathir: We can't be absolutely certain but it's reasonable for us to expect Malaysia to succeed. Even the downturn in the world's economy today has not effected Malaysia too much. Our economy is quite strong, and although it has depreciated downward it has not done so as much as the United States, Germany and others.
Al-Maeena: If you've one motto in life what would that be.
Dr. Mahathir: One motto....
Al-Maeena: Yes.
Dr. Mahathir: We're a very pragmatic people. We're not tied to any ideology. We think ourselves as Muslim fundamentalists. That is, we stick to the basic teachings of Islam. And that has given us strength. Because many people who do not understand the basics make all kind of interpretations about Islam, and they believe in interpretation of this person and that person when they are in doubt.
Al-Maeena: But the application of the word fundamentalist, which has now become one that causes fear, might give cause for nervousness in the West. Don't you think a further explanation of the word is necessary.
Dr. Mahathir: I did that almost 16 years ago. I had dealt with the fundamentals of Islam. Islam is about peace. Islam says that you don't fight against people who do not fight against you. If people want peace then give them peace. These are the fundamentals of Islam.
Al-Maeena: Are there ways that we can engage the West with all that’s going on -- I'm sure you must have read about US Baptist Minister Jerry Falwell's statement on the Prophet (pbuh). Are there any mechanics that can be put in place so we can engage the West in their own language?
Dr. Mahathir: People have access to the media and the TV, but it’s important that the media and TV do not imitate the West in sensationalism, or be provocative. They should give the true picture of our religion and our way of life.
Al-Maeena: One of the accusations we're getting from abroad is that those who are promoting the moderate, saner voice are found wanting in their techniques and their efforts. Malaysia has been making efforts in this regard to establish Islamic universities. Do you think you could institutionalize this in such a manner that there will be people from here who can be trained? You've said very proudly that you're a Muslim fundamentalist in the true sense of the word, a fundamentalist believing in the fundamentals of Islam. Do you think after leaving office you could be the guiding light for such activities?
Dr. Mahathir: Of course, I'll continue to speak out whenever necessary. If people don't hear me, there isn't much I can do. But if I'm called upon to do so and invited to speak, I will.
Al-Maeena: How would you like to be remembered?
Dr. Mahathir: I have been asked that many times.
Al-Maeena: But this is an original one from my side!
Dr. Mahathir: The most important thing for me, despite the fact that I was labeled an “extremist” when I took office, is that I've been able to prove that I am nothing of the sort. I've been very fair and because of that I can now say that all the communities in the country are stable and peaceful.

Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia

Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz has passed away.

Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Rajioon.

When someone dies, it is a good practice to remember the good deeds he has done during his life time.

When we were discussing about his death, today morning, one of my colleague said. He had visited South Korea recently and he had a chance to attend the Juma prayer in a big Mosjid in Seoul. Later it was told to him that this masjid was constructed by Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz.

He has done so many such charity activities. You may visit below website to read more about his charity activities.

ISLAM for Human Liberation

ISLAM for Human Liberation: By : M.M. Akbar (Translation: Dr. M. Abdul Aziz)

While the beginning of the present century marked the rise of ideologies,
it's end witnessed their downfall. We know that these ideologies which
raised a lot of hope have failed to deliver the goods. The philosophies
proclaiming Utopian dreams of a world of equality and the economic system
promising a brave new world have found its place in the dustbin of
history. Countries which once embraced these ideologies have started
throwing them out fully convinced of their unreal and impractical nature.
Both communism and capitalism have practically failed and so man is in
search of an ideology which is hundred percent practical and which can
lead to the liberation of mankind.

Men seeking the path of liberation strayed into different areas. The ultra
materialists begin to learn about religion from religions based on
priesthood. In fact materialism and priestly religions are two extremes of
degeneration. While the former considers man as a mere animal, the latter
claims to elevate him to an angel. Man who is a special creation is
brought down to the level of mere animal in the studies made by such
ideologies and this has invariably led to the failure of these ideologies.
On the other hand priestly religions while claiming to take him to the
high pedestals of angels destroy the human aspect in him. The question of
liberation becomes quiet relevant here. No one now believes that transfer
of power from one to another will lead to liberation. All agree that
transformation of the society and country can be effected through the
individual. But the fact remains that most people fail to define the
nature of changes to be brought about in the individual.

As we have pointed out above it is neither correct nor feasible to treat
man as a mere animal or to make him an angel. What is necessary is that he
should transform himself to a real human being. Man should be able to
differentiate himself from animal. He should be prepared to eschew evil
thoughts. Basic evil characteristics consist of pride, selfishness,
chicanery, badness, cruelty, hypocrisy, petty mindedness etc. Evil actions
originate from all these. When the individuals are liberated from such
evils the society and the nation prosper. Fraternity, good behaviour,
affection, helpfulness, mercy and such qualities trigger to social
transformation which in turn liberates mankind.

It is a fact that an ideology which can liberate man from evil and which
teaches righteousness and human values alone can be a liberating force in
its true sense . The ideologies and philosophies created by man will not
be able to teach what is required for the success of man. This is proved
by the failure of the materialistic ideologies. It means that some one who
is not a man, but knows everything about man should show the path of
liberation to mankind. It is the creator, the protector and the Almighty
who knows better about man than man himself. So the Creator who sustains
the world and all of its beings is the proper authority to show us the
path of liberation.

ISLAM, THE RELIGION
Let us find out whether any philosophy which heralds liberation exists. There is only one philosophy that can hold its head aloft and proclaim that it is possible to liberate mankind. That ideology is Islam.
Islam is the ideology of liberation. Liberation means freeing of the individual, the family, the society and the nation from evils. This is complete and the most comprehensive liberation that comes from Islam.

What is Islam? Is it the life pattern of a section of people treating the mosque and its surroundings as the only world? Is it the religion of long shirts and head gears? Is it a system of worshipping myths borrowed from other religions giving them Arabic names? Is it an army of soldiers wielding Qur'an in one hand and sword in the other hand and ordering to embrace Islam or to face death? Is it a system of law fabricated by Muhammed with a view of putting an end to social evils of the uncultured Arabs? Or is it a philosophy of life with the more important aim of ending miseries of this world? Islam is not any one of these. Then what is Islam?

Islam is a religion, a religion in the full sense of the term. Islam is introduced by God as "Deen". Qur'an introduces Islam as Deen from God. The best translation of the Arabic word 'Deen' is religion. The meaning of the term religion when applied to Islam is to be clearly understood as it is different from what secularists and spokesmen of established religions call religion. The western secular concept of religion is that it should be confined to the church and the rosary beads is foreign to Islam. The philosophy of established religions that it is the duty of religions to carry out orders of the church and the clergy does not agree with the precepts of Islam. What Islam does is the transformation of every field of human activity in consonance with the dictates of God. Religion, in the sense of Islam, is all comprehensive and it covers every aspect of human life - the individual, family, society and politics. Islam does not give license to do what ever one likes. In other words it is improper to define Islam as a religion with its causal meaning.
It is also not correct to bring Islam down to the level of a mere ideology in the sense of 'away of life'. Islam is not enamoured by such ideologies which raise hopes of charming and beautiful world of utopian dreams. The foundation of Islam is laid on the belief in the world to come. The concept of life that the reward for the deeds should be available in this world itself is entirely opposed to Islam. According to certain ideologies the idea of life after death is not only a myth but also reactionary. According to Marxism which was described by Freidrich Nietzche as the philosophy of the present century, the very concept of life after death is a lethal narcotic administered on a society built on heaven on earth. Islam views the world here-after as a powerful instrument capable of transforming the world and as the ultimate transformation, answer to the entire question relating to the very existence of man. As distinct from secular ideologies which run after worthless dreams Islam basically calls for action to succeed in life here-after.

Islam is not merely the religion of Muslims, nor of mosques, of priests of assembly of priests, or of a nation. The Creator of the universe presented the ideology of Islam for the emancipation of man. It consists of divine laws, orders, actions and beliefs. The individual who accepts this becomes a Muslim. Any one born of Muslim parents does not become a Muslim by virtue of birth. If one follows the dictates of God one is in the circle of Islam and out of it whenever one deviates. Similarly a person born out of non-Muslim parents becomes a Muslim if he is prepared to go by the tenets of Islam. No one is barred from getting divine protection on account of birth. Any one who belongs to a Muslim family will be a Muslim as long as he or she leads a life ordained by God. A Scholar will be acceptable when he leads the society with the help of divine sources. A country or a nation when it decides on issues on the basis of divine ordinance will be Islamic.

An ideology can be considered complete and an instrument for transformation only when its philosophy becomes faultless and practical. To bring forth a practical system is more difficult than creating attractive ideologies. It is here that Islam succeeds. Its principles are faultless, attractive and practical.

A message to all on Earth

In the name of God the most Merciful and the most Compassionate.

You are reading this message as part of a call by the last Messenger of God (Peace be upon him), 1400 years ago:

“Convey at least one Aayath(Verse) from Qur’an, The Final Revelation”

We are too busy all of us! Too busy that we never get time to think of the reason behind our existence. Some of us discuss everything under the sun but forget or ignore the basic issues related with human life.

We seldom think why we are here in this world? At times we forget that the next moment is not guaranteed! The reality of death!
You may say: ‘In today’s intensively materialistic life style why remind me of death? After all life is for enjoying till death! Life is for life itself!!’

Let me draw your kind attention to have a sheer parallel thinking: -

If man is a noble creature, noble should be the mission behind the creation. For every action there always lies an aim. And the aim always is beyond the action itself. For example to pass the examination is the aim of a student in school. Similarly the aim of a farmer who farms is to harvest. So the aim of life should not be life itself – it has to be something beyond life.

So what after death? (The whole world is there to talk about life, so I hope you excuse me that I start direct with death)

God (Allah in Arabic language), the creator, says in Qur’an “ How can you reject the faith in Allah? Seeing that ye were without life and He gave you life; then will He cause you to die and will again to Him will ye return” (Chapter -2: Verse -28) – YES, MAN WILL RETURN TO HIS CREATOR!

Throughout history clear direction were revealed to mankind from the creator, explaining the mission of life, to all regions and societies. Allah says in Qur’an: “Never did We destroy a population, but had its Warner” (Chapter -26 : Verse -208).

All these messengers were proclaiming the same eternal truth: The Oneness of God and the fact that the whole worship should be to Him only. The different tribes and creeds in mankind are united in this single thread.

See what Allah say about human diversity. “ O Mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and female, and made you in to nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (NOT THAT YE MAY DESPISE EACH OTHER). Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you (Chapter -49: Verse -13)

See how God is introducing Himself in Qur’an:

“He is Allah, the one and only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begettes not, nor is He begotten. And there is none like unto Him” (Chapter -112 : Verses – 1 to 4)

“ Allah! There is no god but He, the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permittes? He knows what (appears to His creatures as) before or after or behind them. Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He wills. His Throne does extend over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is the most High, the supreme (in glory)
(Chapter -2 : Verse -255)

Everything in this universe follows the law of this glorious creator!!!

Allah Says “ Do they seek for other than the religion of Allah? While all creatures in the heavens and on earth have, willing or unwilling, bowed to its will, and to Him shall they all be brought back” (Chapter -3 : Verse -83)

Man is not a separate entity from universe; rather he is a very special creation in the universe.

Allah Says in Qur’an: “We have honored the sons of Adam (Mankind); provided them with transport on land and sea; given them for sustenance things good and pure; and conferred on them special favors, above a great part of our creation” (Chapter -17: Verse -70)

So when man is the honored creation of God, he has a greater responsibility. His nobility should make him know the Creator in the right spirit. Allah did not leave mankind without guidance in this regard, rather as we saw earlier He send messengers throughout history with the right guidance and code of conduct (catalogues) for this noble creation.

Through these catalogues (revelations) he guided mankind to the way of salvation. Allah Says: Have we not made him a tongue and a pair of lips? And show him the two clear (high) ways?” (Chapter -90: Verses – 9 &10). Yes one way leads him to success! and the other of course to curse!!

......And the choice is left to us the individuals.

Allah has decreed that the one who select the true path will get salvation in the eternal life after death. And as a consequence of their own selection of the wrong path the other group shall be given the right punishment.

Allah Says “Then shall anyone who has done an atom’s weight of good, see it. And any one who has done an atom’s weight of evil, shall see it” (Chapter -99 : Verses –7 & 8). YES! NO INJUSTICE, THE JUDGMENT WILL BE SO ACCURATE.

Allah Says “ It is He who created the heavens and the earth -------- that He might try you, which of you is best in conduct”. (Chapter -11 : Verse -7)

Yes this life is a trial of who is best. When Allah says He will fulfill the reward on the Day of Judgment it is only justice to punish the wrong doers while the righteous are rewarded.

Now think of a situation of dying without acknowledging or in certain cases rejecting this eternal truth, while we are running behind the mirage of the busy life in this world!

Allah says in Qur’an “All souls shall have the taste of death and only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid in full recompense. Only he who is saved from the fire and admitted to the paradise will have attained the object (of life); for the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception” (Chapter -3 : Verse -185)

Yes gentleman, when the real eternal life is the life after death what made us forget it? What a real loss it will be if we are lost in the eternal life! The real success in life is in gaining the success in the eternal life.

At the same time don’t misunderstand that Islam, the way of life prescribed by the designer & Creator of us, is asking us to hide away from this world. For Islam spirituality is not something alien to the plain life experiences. Islam bring down spirituality from shrines and saints to the daily routine of human beings, to their busy life. It guides you through your life to salvation.

It is a complete way of life; nothing is left out of its way. Qur’an , the final (Concluding) revelation from God together with the traditions of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) shows the right path for all activities of mankind in this world. This is the one only true way of life, which leads to ultimate success in the life after death.

So let me invite you in plain, bold and simple terms to this straight path (ISLAM). It only glorifies you, for you are in the path of the Glorious God here. Being in ISLAM You are only reverting to the pure state.

With all prayers.

The Book, which should light your life

This is speech delivered by brother PMA Gafoor during this Ramadan. It was such an impressive speech, that I thought of putting this effort to translate it and share with you all in my blog.

============================================================================
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

Respected Audience,

This speech is about certain questions to ourselves. Certain private questions which we ask to our inner self.

This speech is about a light. Light is the eternal truth. Where there is darkness you can bring light, and drive the darkness out. But darkness cannot come where there is light!

Mr. Leopold Wais was a Jew. A young, smart German Journalist. Something strange struck him while he was on a train trip together with his wife Elsa. There were a group of people sitting against Mr. & Mrs. Leopold in that compartment. From their appearance he easily concluded that they are from a very rich background. Mr. Leopold noticed that even though they are very rich they are very unhappy from inside. In spite of all the false rich expressions, the journalist mind of Leopold could easily read them.

Why is it so? He thought for himself. Why? He asked his wife Elsa.
Later, outside the train the Mr. Leopold was unfolding a food parcel. At one corner of the newspaper, which was used to wrap the parcel, he read the following words:The mutual rivalry for piling up (the good things of this world) diverts you (from the more serious things)..."

Elsa, "read this" said Mr. Leopold. Is this not the answer to the lack of happiness we observed in the face of those people in the train? They read it again together. Yes, it is----it is the answer. At the end of the above sentence in the newspaper it was written "The Holy Quran – Chapter -102 from verse-01".

Mr. Leopold decided to read the Holy Quran. It took one and half months for him to get a German translation of Holy Quran.

He started reading it. In the beginning, it did not attract him. There are many topics/subjects mentioned without any particular order he could identify.

However, he continued reading. It was like a deep silence for him. In Quran he found answers to many of his queries. Like the breast of a mother stops the cry of a child, Quran stopped his wild mind. His journey through Quran took him, later, to the deserts of Arabia. En-route Makkah, once he was left alone in the middle of the desert. The hard face of the desert started hitting him. Hours and days dropped witout even a drop water with him. Death was smelling there. Mr. Leopold was not ready to fail in front of this trial. He took the revolver and pointed it towards his forehead. Suddenly one of the verses of Quran, which he read earlier, rushed to his memory.

"And We will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you [for the cause of Allah] and the patient, and We will test your affairs". (Quran 47:31)
God will not only test you but also see what you speak about it! Instead of using the revolver to kill himself he decided to walk with full force. And that walk was to Islam. He has explained this story in his wonderful book “Road to Makkah”.

In 70’s a name used to make the American youth buoyant. They booked and waited long for his new Albums. When a new album is released there used to be long queue to purchase one copy of it! It was none other than CAT STEVENS.

It was his 24th birthday, CAT’s elder brother gave him a different birthday present. It was an English translation of Holy Quran which the brother had bought from Jordan. Months dropped, CAT kept the translation in his shelf. He never thought of reading it seriously.

CAT was having a treatment in South Africa. In preparation of this journey he pulled few books from his shelf, which included the translation of Holy Quran as well. One fine day after the surgery CAT opened Holy Quran and started reading from the Chapter-1, Vesrse -1.
الْحَمْدُ للّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِين
(Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds)

What? A “Lord” for the whole universe? I have heard the God of Christians, God of Hidus, God of Jews, God of Budhist etc. “Lord” of all mankind? Lord of all creations? He found it very interesting.

Life went on. In a strange accident he fell in the see and was left to the loneliness, where no human can hear his cry. But he cried to the “Lord” of the universe loudly. Surprise – A huge tide threw him to the banks of the sea. He realized that the “Lord” of the universe rescued him.

Later he said “I was not a Muslim then, but I knew the answer to me is Quran”.The question which was rushing to my mind in the loneliness of the nights were cleared by Quran during the days that followed.

Today this old American Pop Musician is considered one of the fifteen leading Muslim scholars in the world!
He is barred from entering to America. US will not issue visa to Brother YUSUFUL ISLAM. (What a wonderful name he has selected for him. Is there a better example for youth than Prophet Yusuf(AS) - Joseph in Bible). America knows that one of the speech of their loved CAT STEVENS could create miracles in America.

Dr. Moorkan Usman (Dr.M.Usman). He was the first doctor (MBBS) from a Muslim family in Ernad area of Kerala state. He was very good student. Considering his academic performance he was offered a good job in Tirunelveli, (Where he studied). But Dr.M.Usman opted to work in the backward area of Nilambur. The reason was rather strange. More than the medical practice Dr.Usman was interested in Nilambur as a fertile ground for his dramas.

Dr. M.Usman was an Athiest, then!

He wanted to promote Atheism through his famous dramas like “ഈ ദുനിയാവില് ഞാന് ഒററകകാണ്” (I am alone in this world). Dr.M.Usman was such an influential and dynamic personality, that many people including the educated youth from Muslim community were attracted to his ideologies.

There was a strong opponent for Dr.M.Usman. His name was K.C Abubakar Moulavi. Unlike others, K.C was not a normal scholar of Islam. He had the ability to counter fight Dr.M Usman with scientific references. Through his Friday sermons in Nilambur Masjid, K.C teared the dramas of Dr. M.Usman and made them a pity.

K.C had the sharp but unique dialect of Ernad. The fight between Dr.M.Usman and K.C continued. The next drama of Dr. M.Usman was to tease K.C. The title itself was teasing in a dialect of Ernad “ഇജജ് നലല മഌസനാകാന് േനാക്” Ijj Nalla Manusan Aaakan Nokku”.

Years dropped and Dr. M.Usman continued his practice as well as the drama activities.

Nilambur is a forest area where there are a lot of tribal communities (mainly Chola Naikans). One day an old tribal Muthappan visited the clinic of Dr. M.Usman. Dr. examined him and gave him the prescription. The Muthappan looked at the knot in his cloth to pay the fee for Dr. M. Usman. Alas – his face became pale. The money is not there. It was lost somewhere while he travelled from the forest to the clinic. He was disturbed. Dr. M.Usman told him, "No problem you can go". Muthappan said “you served me. So, I should pay you”. Dr. M. Usman again told him to forget it and go, or you can say that I will give you next time and leave now. Muthappan was still disturbed. He said “I can escape by saying it and go. But will I not be seen by Udaya Thampuran (God of the universe)"? This sentence was a first hit to the “pride Atheist heart” of Dr. M. Usman!

How come there is such a strong influence of “God” in the mind of a tribal man? "It is not just a belief in God. It is influencing their life in such a strong way!" Dr. Usman's mind was disturbed with these thoughts.

Next day, Dr. M.Usman was writing the script for his new drama named “AYISHA”. The story of AYISHA was about a Muslim girl who loved a Non-Muslim boy. Dr.Usman was writing the script showing all the hurdles she had to face in the society. As the story progressed, AYISHA had to suicide. Then what? Dr. Usman got stuck. What is happening to AYISHA after Suicide? Big silence! He was not able to write anything further. This second hit to his “pride atheist mind” was even harder. He asked to himself : where am I going? What is the meaning of my life? “Definitely there is something after my death”, his sub-conscious mind started telling him.

Dr. Usman went to see K.C, his opponent scholar, at his residence. They argued a lot for long hours. Later K.C took Dr.Usman to another scholar, Umar Moulavi. There also they argued and counter argued about all the questions Dr.Usman had!

The return of Dr.Usman to Nilambur was as a believer of God. He served as the state president of our organization (Kerala Navathul Mujahideen) later on for a long time , until his death!

Mr. ADIYAR of DMK in Tamilnadu. He was a famous politician, a writer and an orator. He was a journalist, the editor of the famous newspaper “Murasholi”. Once he was sent to jail during the emergency rule. He was brutally tortured there.

Once he met a Muslim youth among the jail inmates. His name was Salim. Adiyar noticed that this young man was reading a book every night. One day Adiyar saw Saleem weeping with the book on his face. Adiyar asked him “Why are you crying”. Saleem said, "I am crying because I am happy in what I have read short while ago, I am not sad. “Is this book the book of Muslims- Quran”, Adiyar asked. Saleem said, "Yes. But Quran is not a book for Muslims alone. It is a book for all mankind". "Can I read it? Am I allowed to touch it"? Adiyar again asked. “Yes ofcourse,” saleem said.

Taking Quran in hand Adiyar simply turned the pages. His eyes caught on a miraculous sentence, which had great influence in changing his life, later on, to that of a Muslim.

It was verse 5:3 from Quran, which read:
"…..So fear them not, but fear Me…..". فلا تخشواهم واخشوني.
It was just fitting to his situation in the jail. This verse set him free from all the fears in the jail. Mr.Adiyar became Abdullah Adiyar. He died in the year 1997. He visited Calicut in 1992. During that visit he talked 90 minutes where the theme of his speech was centered around the phrase "...So fear them not, but fear Me...".
You can read Adiyar’s history from his “From the jail to the door of the Masjid”. (തടവറയില് നിന്ന് പളളി വാതില്‍ വരെ).

These four examples of four different personalities were examples for answers to certain private questions. When we get satisfactory answer to our own inner questions, we change our opinions.

How about us?
Is Quran a torch light in our Life?
The son of Khatab, Umar (r) used to make idols. He shall make idols from sweets. Then he shall pray to those idols.....and when he feels hungry he shall eat them! That was Umar before Islam.

The Umar (r) of Islam was different. He wandered around his Kingdom in the midnight to enquire the well being of his people. One day he was walking with Aslam (r) around midnight. They heard the sound of children crying in a hut. They enquired with the women who came out with her covered eyes. When Umar (r) came to know that the children are crying from hunger, he went back to his home and brought flour on his shoulder and made bread for them, without declaring his identity. While leaving them he requested two things.
- Don’t tell about this incident to anyone.
- Please remember me in your private prayers.
The women said, "I wish our rulers were like you". Umar walked away without saying them that he was the ruler of the large Muslim empire, then.

Can our generation conceive this story in the context of “Corrupt” India! Each Indian baby is born with a huge debt of Rs.200,000! While 2G spectrum scandal spread corruption sky high the “mine scandal” of Karnataka state has expanded corruption down to earth!
Even though there are reservations, the president of Iran is a living example for exception. The president of Iran draws the salary of a primary school teacher only!

The question is: Is the Quran influencing in your life?

Americans consumes 300,000,000,000 aspirin tablets. Why is that the Americans not getting good sleep without aspirin? Be a ruler like Umar (r) or a beggar in the street, with Islam in the heart they both can sleep well.

Recently one of my friend mentioned a story. His daughter was travelling in a taxi, sitting next to an American. She was reading Quran. The co-traveller asked “May I read it”. He started reading the 2nd chapter, where he struck with the verse:
"This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah" (Quran 2:2). A book with no doubts, he exclaimed! Last week this American traveller has reverted to Islam. Allahu Akbar.

The question is: Are we fulfilling our responsibilities? Are we communicating this noble message to our fellow beings?

What is earnings (Wealth)?

What is earnings? Our earnings are to whom? We earn not for us, but for others!
Quran asked us:
O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow - and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do. (Quran 59 -18).

Few years before our grandmother died. It was a shock for all. Everyone said “How we will go to the grandmother's home, when she is no more there?” With the passage of time, today none of us remember her with such feelings.

The question is what is there with my grandmother in her grave?
Humans have three friends:
1. His wealth: - wealth will say, “I will be there with you until your last breath”. After your last breath I will be-friend your children and relatives!
2. Family (2nd Friend):- Family will say, “I will be with you even after your death. But I will join you until the grave yard only. There after we will have to part each other".
3. Deeds (3rd Friend):- Deeds will say, “I will be following you wherever you go, even after death”. Our deeds follow us irrespective of they are good deeds or bad deeds.
Today deeds are increased among us. Unlike few decades ago today there are more people in the masjids.

But

If there are ten people praying in the Masjid, the reward shall be different for each individual- depending on the level of Taqwa.
The deeds of only few people become “Amalu ssalihath” (Good deeds). The 24 minutes prayers of Muslims (five times compulsory prayers) should give You light to the next 24 hours of the following day.

We should practice doing good deeds in private, for the sake of Allah alone. The grandson of Ali (r) was lovingly called by public as Zainul Abideen. When he was died they observed a scar on his shoulder. Nobody knew why such a scar similar to that of a laborer was there on his shoulder. A few weeks later one specific area was struck with famine. When enquired they said the reasons as follows.

“Every Saturday a man used to come and give us food and go back. He never gave us his face to identify. Last two weeks this man is not coming to the area”! Such were the influence of Quran in life of pious Muslims.

Once my friend told me about a touching story. One day a man came to his house and asked. “is this the house of Mr.X ”? "What is the matter?, asked house holder. Two years before you bought meat for a marriage ceremony from my shop. Recently we found that our weighing machine had an error of 200g. I wanted to pay the difference in amount you paid. The man had a big list with him to clear. This gentleman died the same night. What a nice day for him to die!

Umar – the second ( r ) was a famous ruler in Islamic history. Once he was inspecting the zakath fruits collected infront of the Masjid. Suddenly he noticed that his child was eating an apple from it. He ran to the child and pushed his hand to the mouth and made him vomit all what the child had eaten. His wife weeped seeing the situation. At night Umar ( r ) came home. He saw an apple there. His wife told him that it is not from public money (Zakath), but it is bought by selling her rings!

This is the way Quran influenced the life of Umar ( r ).

We all love our children. We work hard for them. Suppose in spite of all we do to our child he is not caring us. We may say to our friends “He is not giving me a damn care”.
Allah is describing our attitude towards him in a very similar tone.
"And they did not appraise Allah with true appraisal….." (Quran 6-91)
What are our obligations to Allah? Our priorities are what matters. There is a verse in Quran which should penetrate our hearts like an arrow.
"If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your relatives, wealth which you have obtained, commerce wherein you fear decline, and dwellings with which you are pleased are more beloved to you than Allah and His Messenger and jihad in His cause, then wait until Allah executes His command. And Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people." (Quran 9-24)
Many occasions, one of the eight things mentioned in this verse might delay us from praying in time, right?

Do you like someone delaying his due payment to you? But we often delay our dues to Allah without valid reasons.

There is a season for every type of seed. We are now in Ramadan. Ramadan is a good season for good deeds. It is a season to clear the mind from all evil thoughts. It is the season to train our self from keeping away from bad habits.

Small small ants destroy huge structures. We should be careful about bad habits, even though they seem minor. They may destroy us completely, if left unattended. We have not conceived Allah, the way it should be

Allah is (All seeing) بصير and Allah is خبير (All knowing)

Yes! He “sees” everything and “knows” everything. All our actions are seen by Allah and Allah knows even our intentions. This understanding should inspire our actions. The horizon of good deeds (Amalussalihath) is very vast. You can do good deeds, even while you are sitting at rest! Removing an obstacle from the road is even counted as a good deed by Prophet Mohammed (s). There is a famous book written by Imam Gazzali (Ihya Uloomudheen). If died people return back to the earth for one day. Immam Gazzali discusses what they will be doing on that day. They will be rushing to do as much good deeds (Amalussalihath) as possible.

Let us make a pledge to fill our life with good deeds (Amalussalihath).

Peace of mind from “Iman”

An expatriate family in Kuwait had their pregnant daughter in law, staying with them. Everything was normal as per ultrasound scan report until 9th month of pregnancy. Seeing the last scan report, the doctor said, “There is a serious problem. The position of the child is not correct. It is going to be critical, so she must undergo operation. The happy home became gloomy home. Many days they were not in a mood to cook food. They used to say, “we are worshipping Allah as much as we could. Then why Allah is testing us like this?” Though the family members were tensed, the pregnant daughter in law was very cool. Once she told to them “Allah is the one who turns the whole the planets and stars in the universe. For him it is not difficult to turn the position of my son to the normal position”. Later she was taken to the labour room and she had a normal delivery!
Yes – Allah will look at what we TALK in a situation of test.
Let me quote another love story of sister Fareeda from Peringathoor. She was married to a painter working in the gulf. They lived together only 18 days together after marriage before he return to gulf. Her husband had an accident and was under bed rest for long 21 years. Fareeda served her husband all those years with love. Once he was taken to hospital and he was in a critical stage – Fareeda prostrated in front of Allah and prayed to Allah for the long life of her beloved husband. Why?

O.P Gangadharan, the famous Onchologist, wrote the book “ജീവിതമെ൬ അത്ഭുതം” (A wonder that is life). A young lady came to the doctor. Dr. found that she had cancer spread her body seriously. Doctor told the one accompanied her, “The case is serious. But I will try my level best”. They didn’t have the money required for the treatment. "We will come back later", they said. Few days passed, a young man came to the doctor and said.”I am the husband of the young lady. I was in the gulf. We stayed together only few weeks. Everyone advises me to divorce her. But I want my love. I will toil hard and treat my love. He went back to gulf and started sending money directly to Dr. Gangadharan. The young lady got cured. She studied for B.A later on and now she is working as a teacher. She has two loving children from her love.

IMAN, only Iman can elevate man to such peaceful state of minds to that of Fareeda and the Lover.

Let me tell you another story of our classmate. Her parents were bringing many marriage proposals to her. She told them, "I want to continue my studies". At last she accepted one marriage proposal. She got married. After few days her letter came to our class. She wrote, “If I did not accept this proposal, it would have been a big loss for me”. I am very happy now. In a short while, her husband died. We went to visit her. You need not consol me. I am Ok. My Riyas has gone to the one who loves him more (To Allah). But when she gave birth to her son, she could not control herself. Then she cried anything. She named her baby “Kanza Riyas” (The gift of Riyas). Life was testing her again. She was surrendered to blood cancer. Before her death, she said “It is happy to reach my Riyas, faster this way”.

Peace of mind has to come from inside. It should be the byproduct of our strong belief in Allah (Imaan). Those who cried while remembering Allah in private will not be thrown to hell fire.
Noramlly, we all think, "If I die, what will happen to my children and family"? But we forget to ask, “What will happen to me after my death?”

May Allah enter us all to his paradise. Ameen.
Allahumma Salli Ala Sayyidna Muhammed.

Somalia famine - It is time for individuals, organizations and governements to act

Hundreds of thousands of people are displaced and struck with severe famine in Somalia.

Please read from : http://www.afriquejet.com/oic-somalia-2011081120407.html

The government of Somalia appealed to OIC for help. The Prime Minister of Somalia, Abdulwali Mohamed Ali, sent a letter to the Secretary-General urging OIC and its member states to come to the rescue of the Somali people suffering the consequences of drought, high food prices and terrorist acts.

It quoted the letter by the Prime Minister as saying that, 'the displaced people will not escape death if God did not save them and the hands of assistance did not reach them and the hearts of the Islamic countries’ peoples and governments did not soften.'

Please read also from: guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 20 July 2011

Khadija Aliow Mohamed, the 20-year-old Somali walked for 30 days with her two-year-old daughter Madina to get to the refugee camp in northern Kenya a few weeks ago.

......."The child never recovered from the malnutrition," he says, clutching a small blue slip of paper with the words "Permit for Burial".

"Madina died because of the drought."

She will not be the last. According to the UN, more than six out of every 10,000 people are dying of hunger every day in some parts of the Bakool and Lower Shabelle regions of Somalia, with more than half the children there suffering from acute malnutrition. This is far above the normal famine threshold of two deaths per 10,000 people a day, and 30% malnutrition levels, UN agencies say.

"For the last three years we did not receive rain," says Abdinor, whose reed-thin forearms are cabled with protruding veins. "We were farmers, but there are no farms anymore. No animals."

...."Some of us had donkey carts but the donkeys died because there was no water," she says. "We also had to leave some mothers and children behind on the road because they were too tired. People were very weak."

What can we do?

What role we individuals have here?

For Muslims we are in the month of Ramadan, wherein many of us close our Zakath and extend charity beyond all boarders. There are many charitable organizations all over the world be it in India, Middlesat, Europe, America or Far-east countries.

In this era facebook, we should not just wait until our governments take action!

Each individual and each organization should consider the famine struck brothers in Somalia. Let us reach out and extend our helping help in whatever way possible.

I visited the WAMY (World Assembly of Muslim Youth) office yesterday to explore about their role in this cause. Alhamdu Lillah, WAMY is collecting relief fund for Somalia(only through credit card or Bank cards. They do not accept cash).

I am not sure how effective is their (WAMY) system.

If any one knows better aid agencies to Somalia let us share that information in the comments column.

About Hinduism

The other day I had an exchange of an e-mail to one of my frined on Islam. Here is his reply.
=============================================================================

The text you send makes for a good reading if one is religiously oriented.

I am not & moment I see direct references I cant go further as I have a mental block “I don’t value religion one BIT”. JUST as u have a mental block “u cannot think outside religion”.
It happens my dear! We all evolve values in life. All is correct.
I want u to read this http://aidyninca.wordpress.com/ too – coz ur religiously spiritual. & its written by [u will come to know when u read it].

I could not read this fully at all as when anything gets too religious – I SHUT OUT. For me my Values of my own life are so BIG that even I fear that I cannot keep up to it. I don’t need any doctrine written in some era to tell me that. I have had influences in life but I have always out-thought that. I live life in a simple way & the way I think is right “with my first ring”. Every time i see such “mindless” [according to me] orientations to religion my resolve to keep away grows stronger & ever stronger.

That’s y I am a difficult guy as my views r more with WHAT TO DO & HOW TO DO! Not with Follow a path so widely tread!!!

ATB. Enjoy ur Ramadan month! May u get what u seek & what u do!

[This article was written on a friend’s request]

My earliest encounter of Hinduism was through classmates, friends, neighbors, playmates.

Visiting neighbors / friends during Holi was always a memorable experience – the warmth, hospitality and, above all, the delicious food. And then there were ‘Abeer’, ‘Gulaal’ & ‘Pichkari’. In my opinion Holi signifies that there are lots of colors in one’s life and it is not just a two dimensional view in black and white. Your life is your canvass and you are absolutely free to choose your colors and paint your life. The painting can be good or bad but it is your own doing.

In North India, during Holi, you get a drink called ‘Jal Zeera’. It is a kind of digestive drink that takes care of indigestion and overeating. The idea behind this drink is to force you to overeat without worrying about the consequences.

Diwali has a spiritual message. I was reading an article about the significance of oil lamp [‘Diya’] in our life. The little earthen pot is one’s life, the oil represents the materialism and the wick [‘Baati’] represents the spiritualism. The more the wick is dipped in the oil, the less the flame / light. By involving oneself in extreme materialism one looses the spiritual part of life. However, the wick has to have contact with oil or else it will not burn / glow. And, I believe, the struggle in life is to always maintain the right balance.

My first encounter of Hindu religious ritual was during Saraswati puja in schools. Before ‘Visarjan’, the kids used to pick a part of the hair from the idol and keep them in the books of subjects they found difficult [mainly Mathematics / Science]. This, they believed, will help them pass the exam.

I was born and brought up in Eastern India and Durga puja was a ten days affair. It has a lot of cultural aspect attached to it (especially in Bengal). It was a mix of religion and cultural heritage passed on through generations.

And then I graduated, picked up a job and started working. And once every year there was Vishwakarma puja at my place of work.

And fire played a very important role in the religion. Every ‘Puja’ had ‘Havan / Aarti’ and that was fire, marriage had a fire to circumambulate, when someone died he was given to fire. I had a close friend and he said that his son was born when the cluster of stars were not good. And he made a special puja with big Havan and it was called a puja for ‘Mool Dasha Shanti’. This in plain English means a prayer to ward off the effect of the unfavorable zodiac condition at the time of birth.

To me Hinduism was: bring an idol, place it on a high platform, do ‘Havan’, do ‘Aarti’, do ‘Visarjan’ and wait for the next year to do the same. And in homes- keep small brass idols, some pictures of devi / devta, purvaj, guru and practice the same ritual except for ‘Visarjan’.

That, in a way, summed up my perception of Hinduism at that point of time. And most of my Hindu friends also had the similar perception of their religion.

I studied Sanskrit from grade eight to matriculation. I can still recite most of the ‘Shlokas’ I read and even explain the meanings. I was the most favorite student of my Sanskrit teacher ‘Pathak sir’. I was made to stand in the class and my teacher will mention my name and highlight my proficiency to inspire others. It was like ‘Look here – shame on you!’ I very strongly disagree to any correlation between languages and religion. Languages belong to humanity and not to a particular religion.

Almost all the ‘Shlokas’ I read had messages to make you a better person, make you more humane and inspire you to live life on a higher spiritual plane. To mention one that I like:

“Shad doshah purusheneh hatavya bhutimich-chata
Nindra, Tandra, Bhayam, Krodah, Aalasyam, Deerg sutrata”

[Those who wish to achieve ‘purushatva’ should get rid of sleep (long), languor, fear, anger, laziness and procrastination]

It so happened that during my training days in my first job in India I shared my apartment with a BHU IIT graduate. We ate in the same mess, worked in the same office and lived in the same apartment. It was a 24×7 interaction. The interesting part was that I graduated from AMU, Aligarh. It may be noted that AMU and BHU are the only two universities in India that have a middle name that represents a religious identity. The two of us were as diverse as it could be.

He was a ‘Shiv bhakt’ and a practicing Hindu. I used to pray five times a day. Between the two of us there was never ever any conflict of any sort. We had all kinds of religious books and we read them together. We shared our understanding of each other’s religions. And it was then I was exposed to universal messages of Hinduism.

The definition of ‘jad’ [non-enlightened] and ‘chetan’ [Enlightened], and the reasons to acquire the second and get rid of first. The relation between ‘praan vaavu’ [Life air] and ‘Brahma vaayu’ [Cosmic air].

The importance of ‘Sanskar’ in comparison to ‘Sanskriti’. ‘Sanskriti’ can only be retained if you continue to hold to your ‘Sanskar’. ‘Sanskar’ is the value system embedded in you. One has to ‘Aatm saat’ his sanskar. ‘Sanskriti’ is the external manifestation of ‘Sanskar’. Good sanskar means you come above narrow mindedness, selfishness and being self centric and do not let ‘sankirn vichardhara’ [tunnel vision] destroy your spiritual well being.

One very interesting difference, that I learnt, was between ‘Shishtachaar’ and ‘Samvedna’. In present day material world we use more and more of ‘shishtachaar’ and less and less of ‘Samvedna’. And, to me, this is the greatest value erosion in modern times.

It was during this period that I learned things like –

‘Eko Aham dujo na asti’

‘Tat twam Asi’

‘Aham Brahma asmi’

In some of the other religions such thoughts are not permitted or even strictly prohibited / penalized. The idea, as I understand, is not what appears to be on its face value or by its lingual translation. I tend to believe that it invites you to reach a higher plane of living. Good can only be achieved by doing good and being good. And there is no limit to goodness. It is not like having something on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 represents the ultimate goodness. There is no 10 when you pursue goodness. The higher end of the scale is infinity and if you reach infinity, from the perspective of Hinduism, you may say ‘Eko Aham dujo na asti’, ‘Aham Brahma asmi’.

Infinity and the word of Om has many mentions in the Hindu scriptures-

‘Om purnmidah, purnidam, purnat purn mudach-chitay

Purnasya purn maday purnameva avshishyate’

[This world is infinite and that God is infinite, this infinite [world] comes from that infinite [God] .And if you take this infinite [world] from that infinite [God], infinite [God] still remains.]

And then there is –

‘Omityakakshar param omityakakshar Brahma

Omitya kakshar gyatwa yadich-chati tasya tat’

[The word of Om is the ultimate truth; the word of Om is the Brahma

If you know the word of Om; whatever your desire will come true.]

The universal message of unity as one global family is conveyed in –

“Ayam nijah parovetti ganana laghu chetsam

Udaar charitranam te vasudhaivya kutumbukam’

[In summary translation –“For the enlightened people the world is a family”]

The universal message of non-violence is very strongly summarized in –

Ahimsa parmo dharma’ [Non-violence is the highest religion]. I personally believe that non-vegetarianism is deeply related to the doctrine of ‘Ahimsa’.

The value of hospitality is conveyed in ‘Atithi devo bhava’. [Guest is god]

In the recent past I mentored a young grade 10 girl in a youth leadership program and she had a powerful message at the end of her speech-

‘Samast loken sukhinav bhawanti’

“Let there be peace and prosperity [harmony] everywhere”.

Unfortunately, these messages do not get manifested in practical life.

I find so many Hindus who are non-vegetarian. Or it may be that I mostly interact with urban professional Hindus only and it is more prevalent among them. One of my Muslim friends in Delhi told me that so many Hindus have started being non-vegetarian that the price of meat is sky-rocketing!

In late eighties I was posted in Allahabad. I used to visit Kumbh mela out of curiosity [Naga sadhus]; to drive my jeep on pontoon bridge or to strike a conversation with a Saadhu if an opportunity came across.

It was during one such discussion that a saadhu told me:

Quote: “Child (Bachcha)! Try to live a ‘Satwik’ life [Pure, clean, no adulteration of your value system, not having desires beyond your very basic need].

Still, you are a human and you will do wrong – ‘Do pashchachtap’.

If you stop at ‘Pashchatap’ the clock may turn back and you will repeat again.

You must do ‘prayashchit’. Unquote

And I think from the perspective of Hinduism, ‘Moksha’ and ‘Nirvana’ can only be attained when you emulate these higher & universal thoughts in your life.

If life can be represented by a jar full of sands and pebbles. The rituals / non-productive activities (sleeping, eating, bathing etc.) represent sand. When one imbibes the basic teachings and higher thoughts then only one collects pebbles. Pebbles are what you will look back to in future and feel great about. Unfortunately we give more importance to rituals and we continue to fill our jar with sand.

I wish to close by saying once again:

‘Samast loken sukhinav bhawanti’

Social relevance of congregational prayer (Salath) in Masjid.

Most of us attend the five times prayers regularly in congregation in Masjids.

Recently I was pondering about this great opportunity for us to meet with our brothers. During this thought something very strange struck my mind. In many occassions I go for Salath and perform Salath, make my zikr & duaa and come back calmly to my apartment......without sometimes talking to none!!!!

Then I observed many others. Surprisingly, I found that many are doing the same. They all come, sit quietly, pray, make zikr & duaa, get up and go back......!

I deicded then, in addition to the Mulaqaath with my Lord, each trip to Masjid should be looked as an opportunity to mingle with atleast one man inside or enroute the masjid.

When I tested this, it is totally a different experience! An experience in which the five times Salath become a spiritual as well as social journey.

What is your reading about this?

Do you like to meet your Lord (Creator / God)?

.....Whoever expects to meet his Lord, let him work righteous, and, in the worship of his Lord, admit no one as partner (Quran 18:110).

It is simple offer from Allah, our Lord. The choice is ours!

Four Popular Myths About Leadership

US ex-Guantanamo guard converts to Islam, prays in Makkah

Makkah, May 29: When US soldier Terry Brooks was sent to join military guards at the infamous Guantanamo prison that houses Moslem militants from Taliban and Al-Qaeda, he had not thought he would embrace the religion of those prisoners. After a few chats with a Moroccan inmate, he converted to Islam in 2003.
Brooks was caught by local reporters this week praying in the western Saudi town of Madina before heading for nearby Makkah to perform his first pilgrimage (Umra), which he said had been his dream over the past years.
The Saudi Arabic language daily Okaz said it waited for Brooks to finish his prayers and talked to him about his conversion to Islam. He credited “prisoner number 590” named Ahmed Al Rashdi of Morocco for his “landmark” decision. After converting, he was expelled from the army.
Brooks told the paper he was sent to Guantanamo long before 2003 and later started to mingle with some prisoners there.
“I still remember that great moment….the time was around 12:49 am in December 2003 when I embraced Islam…at that night, I took this landmark decision after numerous chat sessions with Al Rashdi,” he said.
“It was a memorable moment in my life…….many prisoners sat around me when I converted and decided to call me Mustafa as their new friend…later I added the name Abdullah so I am now called Mustafa Abdullah.”
Brooks said he had been delighted when the US army decided to send him to Guantanamo as it was an adventure for him since had not seen a prison before.
“When I arrived there, it was a big shock for me… even before I entered the prison buildings, I could see that it was horrible and could suit only cactus and poisonous reptiles….I then asked myself ‘are those people behind the bars really so dangerous that they are worth these costly security measures.”
Brooks said he started to be interested in Islam after his talks to Al Rashdi and other prisoners about Islam, Palestine, Afghanistan and the Middle East.
“I used to sit just outside their cells at night listening to them…by time, a sort of mutual respect developed between us …I had never believed in God before I went to Guantanamo.…now that I embraced Islam, I can feel the sweetness of religion…Islam is a pure religion and the ultimate right.”
Brooks said he had first concealed his decision to convert to Islam from other US guards at Guantanamo, adding that when the officer learned about it, he and the other soldiers began to treat him cruelly and accused him of betraying America. Around two years before the end of his contract, he was fired from the army.
“I am now working on a book about my experience to embrace Islam.…I have just quit my job in the US to devote my time to helping the prisoners in Guantanamo..…what is happening in that prison is really inhuman and violates the minimum principles of human rights,” he said.
